Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the gained 0.62%, while the index gained 0.73%, and the index added 0.93%.

The best performers of the session on the were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:), which rose 9.25% or 2.90 points to trade at 34.30 at the close. Meanwhile, 3M Company (NYSE:) added 5.23% or 4.48 points to end at 90.08 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:) was up 2.88% or 1.55 points to 55.63 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:), which fell 2.69% or 0.59 points to trade at 21.37 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:) declined 2.53% or 4.07 points to end at 156.61 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:) was down 0.82% or 1.30 points to 157.89.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:) which rose 9.25% to 34.30, Ball Corporation (NYSE:) which was up 7.43% to settle at 46.00 and Rtx Corp (NYSE:) which gained 7.17% to close at 78.37.

The worst performers were Fair Isaac Corporation (NYSE:) which was down 6.93% to 862.89 in late trade, Equifax Inc (NYSE:) which lost 5.27% to settle at 169.61 and Pentair PLC (NYSE:) which was down 4.59% to 59.45 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were LianBio ADR (NASDAQ:) which rose 117.27% to 3.02, Forbion European Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:) which was up 72.84% to settle at 18.20 and InMed Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 70.53% to close at 0.99.

The worst performers were LumiraDx Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was down 43.62% to 0.16 in late trade, INVO Bioscience Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 30.19% to settle at 1.48 and Sonoma Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 26.35% to 0.38 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1953 to 936 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2064 rose and 1390 declined, while 126 ended unchanged.

Shares in The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 0.82% or 1.30 to 157.89. Shares in LianBio ADR (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; rising 117.27% or 1.63 to 3.02. Shares in Forbion European Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:) rose to all time highs; up 72.84% or 7.67 to 18.20. Shares in Sonoma Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 26.35% or 0.14 to 0.38.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.87% to 18.97.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.19% or 3.70 to $1,984.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.11% or 1.80 to hit $83.69 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.05% or 1.84 to trade at $87.99 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.69% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.12% to 149.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.67% at 106.04.
