US Futures Rise, European Stocks Drop

In the U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.1% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.1%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.

In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 fell 0.5% in morning trading. Mondi PLC climbed 4.5% and International Distribution Services added 4%. On the other hand, S4 Capital dropped 22.9%, and Nordic Semiconductor lost 12.1%. The FTSE 100 lost 0.1%. Other stocks in Europe were down as France’s CAC 40 declined 0.6% and Germany’s DAX dropped 0.4%.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index fell 0.1% to 99.35.

In commodities, Brent crude gained 0.8% to $94.64 a barrel, and WTI crude rose 0.8% to $91.54 a barrel.

The German 10-year Bund yield climbed by 1 basis point to 2.694% from 2.68%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury rose by 2 basis points to 4.348% from 4.331%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were mixed. Markets in Japan were closed. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 1%. China’s benchmark Shanghai Composite climbed 0.3%.
