Eastman Chemical Co.’s Texas operations experienced a brief steam outage Sunday morning followed by a lightning strike Sunday evening, resulting in temporary process disruptions, a company spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.
The affected units have returned to normal operation, the spokesperson said.
A filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality indicated that flaring began at 10:50 a.m. Sunday and ended around 5:00 p.m. local time that same day. The Ethylene Oxide/Ethylene Glycol Plant 2 and the Hydrocarbon Cracking Plant No. 4 were the only two process units involved in the flaring event, according to the TCEQ filing.
The HCC-4 olefins unit has an annual ethylene capacity of 922 million pounds, according to PetroChem Wire by OPIS, a Dow Jones company.
