It’s all in the wrist.

Apple

revealed its anticipated Apple Watch Series 9 during its big product launch event on Tuesday, where it also debuted the long-awaited iPhone 15 lineup.

The new Apple Watch starts at $399, and will be available to order starting Sept. 12, and for regular purchase on Sept. 22.

The new Apple Watch Series 9 features a new S9 chip that could lead to speed and efficiency improvements and faster load times, the same 18-hour battery life, a new FineWoven fabric band, and up to 2000-nit brightness display. Apple also debuted a brand new “double-tap” gesture, which allows people to answer calls and interact with their watch by tapping their index finger and thumb together when their non-watch hand is occupied.

The Apple Watch has become the company’s hottest-selling product, and a back-to-school essential for many students. Apple’s wearables, including the signature smartwatches, made up $8.28 billion of the company’s $81.8 billion total revenue for its third quarter. What’s more, a recent Counterpoint survey found that almost 80% of iPhone users with a smartwatch own an Apple Watch, so it’s become a key accessory for shoppers embedded in the Apple ecosystem.

Still, the Apple Watch is facing increasing competition from rivals like Google, which is revealing its new Google Pixel Watch 2 on Oct. 4.

As Apple revealed its latest smartwatch, some people took to social media to give their thoughts.

Others were less impressed and thought the new features were marginal changes at best.

Apple also released a second-generation version of its premium Apple Watch Ultra. The Ultra 2 has a higher price tag starting at $799, and has features including 36 hours of battery life, an S9 SiP chip, and a 3000-nit brightness display.

Shares of Apple Inc. moved 1.7% low during Tuesday ‘s trading, and are 35.7% higher in 2023.
