United Airlines said it had resumed its flights after an unspecified “systemwide technology issue” that temporarily halted scheduled departures nationwide on Tuesday afternoon.

“We have identified a fix for the technology issue and flights have resumed,” United (ticker: UAL) said at about 2 p.m. Eastern time in a post on X, the social media platform formerly called Twitter. “We’re working with impacted customers to help them reach their destinations as soon as possible.”

United
(ticker: UAL) shares fell 4.7% in intraday trading but were recovering, and closed down 2.5% to $48.47 on Tuesday.

The groundstop began about one hour earlier, when United Airlines said on X that it was experiencing a systemwide technology issue. But it said flights that were already airborne would continue to their destination as planned.

The live-flight tracking site FlightAware.com reported 358 delayed United flights on Tuesday, or about 13% of its daily schedule.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed United had lifted the ground stop.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said the FAA is “currently receiving more information about the cause and scope of the issue, and DOT will make sure UA meets its obligations to affected passengers.” He later also confirmed that the ground stop had been lifted.
