U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.30%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Friday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the gained 0.30%, while the index lost 0.11%, and the index fell 0.56%.

The best performers of the session on the were Chevron Corp (NYSE:), which rose 2.02% or 3.25 points to trade at 164.08 at the close. Meanwhile, Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) added 1.78% or 1.88 points to end at 107.45 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:) was up 1.06% or 0.35 points to 33.37 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:), which fell 2.98% or 2.73 points to trade at 89.03 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:) declined 1.14% or 2.70 points to end at 235.56 and Dow Inc (NYSE:) was down 0.95% or 0.53 points to 55.45.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were News Corp B (NASDAQ:) which rose 4.73% to 21.69, News Corp A (NASDAQ:) which was up 4.58% to settle at 21.24 and Axon Enterprise Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 3.48% to close at 211.23.

The worst performers were Bath & Body Works Inc. (NYSE:) which was down 5.05% to 37.01 in late trade, Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:) which lost 5.01% to settle at 651.97 and Teradyne Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 4.41% to 101.73 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Amyris Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 107.74% to 0.14, Telesat Corp (NASDAQ:) which was up 53.49% to settle at 12.97 and WANG & LEE GROUP Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 43.97% to close at 1.15.

The worst performers were Yield10 Bioscience Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 55.45% to 0.45 in late trade, Atreca Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 36.57% to settle at 0.56 and Imperial Petroleum Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 35.70% to 1.63 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1533 to 1368 and 94 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1841 fell and 1652 advanced, while 121 ended unchanged.

Shares in News Corp B (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; rising 4.73% or 0.98 to 21.69. Shares in Yield10 Bioscience Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; down 55.45% or 0.56 to 0.45. Shares in Atreca Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 36.57% or 0.32 to 0.56. Shares in Imperial Petroleum Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 35.70% or 0.90 to 1.63.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.37% to 14.84.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.18% or 3.55 to $1,945.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.36% or 0.30 to hit $83.12 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.29% or 0.25 to trade at $86.65 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.29% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.14% to 144.93.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 102.72.
