Stocks in Toronto were modestly higher in midday trading Tuesday, as energy and mining stocks helped drive gains following the long weekend in Canada.
Markets in the U.S. were closed.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index was 0.2% higher at 20200.39, while the blue-chip S&P/TSX 60 was ahead 0.2% at 1216.53.
The major banks were mixed, with Toronto-Dominion Bank leading gainers with a rise of 1.6% but Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and National Bank of Canada both slightly weaker.
Other market movers:
Among resources stocks, Barrick Gold’s shares were 0.3% higher at C$22.47, Canadian Natural Resources was up 0.4% at C$74.81 and Suncor energy was ahead 1.3% at C$39.37.
