The rise of artificial intelligence is revolutionizing various industries, including content writing for businesses. However, the use of AI tools to generate content has sparked a heated debate in recent times. Advocates argue these tools offer numerous benefits, such as increased efficiency, improved productivity and cost savings. On the other hand, critics express concerns about the potential drawbacks, including the loss of human creativity, ethical issues and the risk of bias.
Below, 14 Young Entrepreneur Council members contribute to the ongoing discussion surrounding AI content writing for businesses, examining both the positive aspects and the challenges associated with using these tools. By learning and weighing the pros and cons, businesses can make informed decisions about integrating AI into their content creation processes.
1. AI Boosts Productivity
I view AI positively because it helps boost employee productivity and operational workflows. For content creation, AI is used to ideate blog, social and webinar topics. For technical workflows, we’ve used AI to create a Python script, summarize meeting notes and more. With AI’s benefits primarily during ideation, we always use a human touch to finalize our implementations. – Julian Hamood, Trusted Tech Team
2. AI Cannot Duplicate Human Emotion
I look at using AI to write content negatively. Original insights that come from reasoning, storytelling and personal experience are the secret sauce that has consistently ranked higher. What is hard to present when writing is not “data” but the human emotional connection that readers gravitate to, and personalization, which AI cannot duplicate. This is why human-written content will always win! – Brian David Crane, Spread Great Ideas
3. AI Can Open The Door To Creating A Better Product
AI has to have its place in your business if you’re going to keep up with the competition. There’s fear that when you have AI write your content entirely or replace interactions with your customers, you risk replacing the heart of your business. But you also open the door to creating a better product, which is what your customers ultimately want. Even the Tin Man found his heart eventually, right? – Isabelle Shee, GROW
4. AI Cannot Replace Real Wisdom
AI is not wisdom, and content generated solely by AI will lack context and originality. AI-generated content has its benefits, including speed and cost-effectiveness. However, with human intervention, AI-generated content can be contextualized to provide insights beyond just facts and be turned into thought leadership. Businesses should use AI as a tool to enhance content creation, not replace real wisdom. – Devesh Dwivedi, Devesh Dwivedi
5. AI Can Save Time Spent On Pre-Draft Research
Using AI for content generation can be helpful in several ways. It can help you save time doing research before you start drafting your content. However, you can’t entirely trust the output you get from AI tools. Sure, it makes your job a lot easier. But you definitely need to double-check the information generated by AI tools before relying on it completely. – Josh Kohlbach, Wholesale Suite
6. AI-Generated Writing Still Requires A Human Touch
AI, unless it becomes regulated, is not going anywhere. A key to using writing functions is to have someone who is already an expert in managing it to improve productivity. You must research, correctly cite sources and add proper tone and a human touch. It does not replace a job necessarily. If you have an excellent writer on staff, encourage them and discuss productivity and how they can use it. – Matthew Capala, Alphametic
7. AI Can Assist With Brainstorming
AI is a tool that should be used in combination with human intelligence, not relied upon completely. When writing content for business, AI can assist with brainstorming, phrasing and formatting, but it does not generate ideas. Utilizing AI can provide a different way of conveying ideas, but ultimately, the ideas themselves are a human construct. The key is to use AI to amplify human expression. – Alexis Austin, Right Law Group
8. AI Cannot Generate Creative Ideas
These tools are great at generating content based on data, but they’re not very good at coming up with creative ideas. This can limit the scope of the content it creates and make it feel stale. However, using AI-based content tools to generate content is a huge timesaver since writing is a pretty time-consuming task. AI tools can help businesses save time and focus on other areas of their business. – Sujay Pawar, CartFlows
9. AI Can Be Trained To Write In Multiple Languages
Using AI for content creation holds potential for errors. AI tools are only as good as the algorithms and data they’re based on. If there are errors in the data or flaws in the algorithms, the resulting content may be inaccurate or impractical. On the other hand, AI content creation tools can be trained to write in multiple languages, which can be a huge asset for businesses that operate globally. – Abhijeet Kaldate, Astra WordPress Theme
10. AI Cannot Capture A Specific Voice And Tone
While AI tools can save time and reduce costs for companies with unmet or heavy content needs, there are certainly some drawbacks. These tools lack the ability to capture a specific voice and tone, which is critical to brand identity. Also, since many AI tools are unable to distinguish between credible and non-credible sources, research-based content often requires fact-checking and revisions. – Samuel Saxton, ConsumerRating.org
11. AI Tools Will Redefine Content Creation
I think AI tools will redefine content creation. So, it goes without saying that I view these tools positively. However, there’s a flip side to everything. The core benefit of using AI tools is that they make content creation less time-consuming. But the tools lack emotional intelligence and empathy for the audience. So, using them to create content is fine, but the end product requires a human touch. – Jared Atchison, WPForms
12. AI-Written Content May Create A Risk Of Plagiarism
Using AI tools to write content can be super helpful. But my biggest fear of using it is the risk of plagiarism. Since AI tools generate content based on preexisting content, the risk of duplicate content increases a lot. Google might penalize you for using such content on your site. – Andrew Munro, AffiliateWP
13. AI Quickly Finds Information To Guide Content Creation
Leveraging AI tools as facilitators in the content creation process may be an efficient strategy. AI can help you find relevant information in a matter of seconds and guide you in the production of engaging content for your audience. However, using such tools from start to end isn’t a viable approach because you know your audience better and can personalize your content per their needs and/or preferences. – Stephanie Wells, Formidable Forms
14. AI Can Assist With Creative Content, Not Generate It
AI language tools are neither intelligent nor dumb. They’re just tools. If you train these tools intensely, they can produce the intended content faster. But they can’t produce the creativity that needs to go into the content. You always need a human to inject the necessary brilliance into AI-generated content pieces. So, the motto is “AI-assisted, not AI-generated.” – Kelly Richardson, Infobrandz
