Kashmir crisis live: India says strikes on Pakistan meant to deter further attacks

India’s military strikes on targets in Pakistan prompted multiple airlines to re-route and cancel flights that were destined to land or due to fly over the south Asian countries on Wednesday.

Gulf carriers, including Qatar Airways, temporarily suspended flights to Pakistan, while Thai Airways, China Airlines and Korean Air were among those re-directing their planes to avoid the conflict zone. 

Shares in India’s biggest airline, IndiGo, fell 1 per cent after the carrier said its flights into and around Indian-administered Kashmir had been “impacted”. Tata-owned Air India, as well as rival SpiceJet, also said they had cancelled multiple routes in north India and Kashmir.
