Galp Energia said late on Thursday that it and Singapore-based battery recycling company, TES, will jointly work together on the recycling of lithium-ion battery materials.
The Portuguese energy company said that both have agreed to assess the feasibility of a sustainable battery recycling business in Iberia, important in setting up a local and full-cycle battery value chain.
The recycling operations could involve both mechanical and chemical processes, Galp said.
Both companies will perform studies designed to draw up a competitive and sustainable process to convert feedstock into recycled battery materials to serve offtake customers, Galp added.
“We must ensure the long-term availability of key battery materials and to this end, circularity is essential,” Galp’s Executive vice president for renewables and new businesses, Georgios Papadimitriou, said in a statement.
