Evergy is requesting a base rate increase of about 13% for customers in its Missouri West service area for next year.

The Kansas City, Mo.-based utility company said Friday that its request with the Missouri Public Service Commission was for a gross increase of $104 million, excluding fuel.

The new rates would become effective Jan. 1, 2025, if approved by regulators.

Evergy said its request included recovery of investments related to two natural-gas plants and in the electric grid to improve reliability.

The request also includes investment recovery for grid upgrades and modernizations.

Evergy said it wasn’t requesting any changes to base rates in its Missouri Metro service area, which contains most customers in the Kansas City metropolitan region.

The Evergy Missouri West service area serves about 340,000 customers.
